SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

JULY 1998

A couple of months before retiring from the Army, Tom took one last "business" trip to San Antonio and the highlight was a visit to his all-time favorite eatin' place, Josephine's

Josephine's is quite distinctive; with a live tree growing in center of the dining area and an extremely relaxed atmosphere.

The standard Josephine's fare is a Liquor Drink, Lightning Bolts, and the best Peppersteak every to come off a grill.

... and no visit to San Antonio would be complete without a visit to Tom & Marilyn's best Texas friends, Larry & Lucy Stephens and his old boss Hershel Moody.

FEBRUARY 1999

In late February, Tom & Marilyn took a long weekend and traveled to San Antonio for the annual DUSTOFF Reunion.  No trip to San Antonio would be complete without a visit to the River walk.

...and no trip to that part of Texas would be complete without a visit to Tom & Marilyn's favorite small town, Gruene, about 30miles north of San Antonio.  The Gruene dancehall is the oldest in Texas.

... and their favorite "eatin place" is the Grist Mill Restaurant where "chicken-fried chicken" and Texas beans is the best meal in Gruene.

Gruene has a number of unique shops...where you can buy anything from cow skulls to spurs to hand-dipped ice cream.

One of the more unique shops is called "Bushwhackers".  Here they have carved a bust of an old cowboy who used to be a regular at the Gruene dancehall.  Tom & Marilyn actually met him in 1990 when they were living in San Antonio.

Marilyn collects some soil on Fort Sam Houston so she can take "a little bit of Texas" back home with her.

Marilyn & Tom really like south Texas and never miss an excuse or opportunity to visit.
