July 4th Weekend Visit to 4991 McGee Road

Mer-Ruth (a latent geek herself), and Kenny, enjoy reviewing Glenn's "North Atlantic Cruise" Web Page.

4991 at night ... on the 4th of July.

Friday, July 5th was a beautiful sunny day; the perfect day for a trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Tom & Mary Ruth take advantage of the beautiful weather and head to the mountains.  As is always the case, the Blue Ridge Parkway is the focus of this day trip.

There was a little haze hanging over the mountains throughout the day.

The first stop is Doughton Park and breakfast at the Bluffs Lodge Cafe.

... and an excellent breakfast it was, with Buck Wheat Cakes for Mer-Ruth and Eggs, Grits & Bacon for Tom.

No trip to Doughton Park would be complete without a picture of Caudill's cabin down in the valley.

Bluff's Lodge (Doughton Park).

A stop along the Parkway to view gravestones at a private cemetery plot ... just to make sure there were no relatives (Reeves) buried there.

The next stop along the Parkway was "The Trading Post".  The big purchases here were: country ham and Molasses Stack Cake.

After leaving the Parkway, we visited the old Reeves homestead, which is beginning to look more like a real Bed & Breakfast every day.

A Trailer residence just off Reeves road.

Just outside Sparta, we paid an unannounced visit to Virginia's mountain hideaway, which she has named her "Playhouse".  It's a very modest design on the outside, but truly a home on the inside.

The inside of the Playhouse is very impressive.  Virginia has done a superb job finishing and furnishing the inside.

As Virginia says: "it's still a work in progress".

Back home, and after a very hard day at the "Thresher's Reunion", Kenny takes a little snooze in front of the TV.

"JUST SAY 'NO' TO CRACK"!!!!

What better way to end this web page .... than capturing the "artist" at work; into the wee hours of the morning he labors over his laptop to assure the web page is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also informative and educational.

THE END!
